A man who contaminated sweets with sedative and gave them to children at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two children both between nine and ten.
The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the facility in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on late November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.
The defendant played a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the next day.
She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the activities, for good reason.
"They decided to have a look in the individual's items."
The legal counsel stated materials including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said Ruben went on to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she added.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating the police response of the incident.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities a second time.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
