Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid period, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's first championship after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

His defensive approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a third set.

He saved four early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched the title with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman unable to control a return after a lengthy match.
